Unistrut Canoe Rack
So as a means to transport the yet-unnamed canoe, I decided to build a suitable rack to carry it above the bed of my truck.
After some research I decided to use Unistrut/Superstrut channel as a platform for the build. Being lucky enough to have access to a cnc machine at work, along with a nice supply of scrap material, I designed a set of riser blocks for the crossbars and stopper pads that would secure the boat from longitudinal movement.
Add a pair of ratchet straps, cut your bars to length and add your hardware of choice and you're off and running. I did drill holes in the bed rails of my truck. I know. However - it had existing holes from a previous bed cap, and I'm not really bothered by it. Alternatively you could use any number of different clamping systems, including aluminum bed cap clamps.
This system has been tested to 75mph multiple times and has been performing great.
